Many of us have heard about social media usually from
internet marketing or search engine marketing. Social media is a phrase that gets thrown around a lot
nowadays. However not many people know what exactly is social media. But
what is social media anyway?
Social
media incorporates the online technology and methods through which people can
share content, personal opinions, swap different perspectives and insights into
world issues and generally discuss the evolution of media in itself.
Social media
website content can come in texts, images, audio and video. The most popular types of social media
websites are gigantic at the moment. Examples of few social
media websites that are use for social networking are the likes of Bebo,
MySpace and Facebook.
Another
example of social media websites are wikis – like Wikipedia it allows you to
create, edit and share information about a subject or topic. You Tube is
another example for video sharing website and there’s Flickr an example of
photo-sharing social media website.
News
aggregators like Digg is an example of social media website that provide a list
of the latest news stories published by users from a range of different
websites. Social bookmarking, online gaming and presence apps are another
example of social media websites.
There
are many more types of social media sites available on the internet and the
trend is moving fast and even if it was possible to list all the varieties of
social media websites that exist, it would likely be out of date as new and
innovative social media sites spring up nearly every day.
